I just got my new (used) 1998 B21 TLB today. What a joy!! But I have a couple of questions. What does the knob under the seat down between your legs do? And my instructions for removing the backhoe are half gone, so I can't read them. Can someone take a good picture of them for me and email it? Or describe the process so I can print it out and remove the backhoe? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

The knob under the seat will slow or stop your hydraulic flow to the three point hitch. The rest is a little more complicated but still easy. The book is one way, we normally show how to remove and install upon delivery, you might ask who you got it from to fill you in on the steps or phone your local dealer. It should take aboout 5 minutes to change from hoe to three point hitch or vis versa. ....

Just a slight addition to what Art said: The flow control knob generally is used to adjust how fast an implement lowers (so a heavy one doesn't crash to the ground when lowered. The adjustment also can make mowers cut more evenly on bumpy ground). Many flow controls don't affect how fast a 3ph lifts, only how fast it lowers. Another basic idea here is that a position control lever sets how low a lift goes but virtually all of them will float up over bumps. It's the weight of an implement that holds it on the ground and the design that takes it into the ground.

If it's a 3ph hoe, it changes virtually the same as other 3ph implements but stabilizers or 3ph lock-down parts also may have to be removed. If the hoe is fed from a power-beyond port, a length of hose and connectors may be needed to reconnect the power-beyond hose together when the hoe isn't mounted.

Tom.... It is hard to keep all these models straight, but I beleive the B21 is a TLB package like the BX22, only bigger.

I have not had a chance to crawl around one yet, but I think it has the same sort of 4 point hitch as the BX.

Thanks MarkH! Out here in the deep country I seldom see a tractor other than my own and it's true that I don't know the specifics for most models discussed here. Fortunately there are always people here who can fill in my omitted specifics. ....

Thanks for the help. I got the tractor from the internet, and the man that delivered just a delivery guy he called up. My point is, he didn't give me a rundown on everything. I am in the process of looking for a decent manual (I just missed a dealers manual on Ebay by a buck, it sold for $78.50). Until then, I need to learn as much as possible. The B21 is an industrial unit that is only 21 hp, but lifts as much as any 30 hp standard unit. The hoe is also 7 1/2 feet, which is big for a 21 hp tractor. But since the frame is way super heavy (no sub frame because the tractor was ment for a hoe), and since the tractor and loader weigh in at about 3500 lbs without the hoe, it can handle the 7 1/2 feet. I think it is a 4 point like Mark said. I just wish I could figure out how to get it off.

Thanks for all your help. ....

I figured it out! Wow, that is the easiest thing I have taken off from a tractor in my life. Just as easy to put back on too! Thanks for the help.
